There are many different kinds of treatment centers and programs out there. If you or a loved one is looking for help, it may be overwhelming to hear all of these terms and not know what they mean. Here are a few different types of addiction treatment programs which you may want to investigate.

Holistic Treatment

Holistic rehab centers are a type of program in which the individual is treated wholly. Holistic treatment programs often include things like acupuncture, nutritional counseling, exercise, art therapy, and other things which are sometimes considered “alternative.” Often, holistic treatment centers offer a different way to treat addiction and alcoholism than twelve-step and traditional psychotherapy. These programs may work well for those who weren’t able to find the help they needed at a traditional twelve-step model center.

Luxury, Executive, or Private Treatment

You may hear the terms luxury treatment, executive rehab, or private drug rehab, which often mean roughly the same thing. These treatment centers are on the high end, and are catered toward those who have specific needs for treatment. If an individual needs to continue working, wants a luxurious experience, or needs privacy, one of these treatment centers may be the best fit. These facilities often cost more money and cater to an older group of people than other treatment centers, which can make it ideal for executives, parents, and business people.

Faith-Based Treatment

There are also faith-based options like Christian rehab centers, Buddhist recovery programs, and Jewish treatment centers. These are ideal for those who have an established faith or want to investigate religion or spirituality along with their recovery from addiction. These programs aren’t for everyone, but they do work well if it is a good fit. Many treatment centers offer a faith-based model in addition to their normal track, while others are strictly faith-based treatment centers.

Co-Occurring Disorders

Co-Occurring disorders is when an individual has both a substance use disorder and an additional mental health disorder. Sometimes referred to as dual diagnosis treatment, this model of treatment offers help for both the addiction and the underlying mental health issues. If you or your loved one is struggling with addiction and have a history of mental health disorders, finding somewhere with a strong program for co-occurring disorders is highly recommended. For the best chance at recovery and health, the individual has to seek treatment for both. Without proper care, relapse rates are unfortunately high.

State-Funded Treatment

For those without money or with state insurance, there are state and county funded treatment programs. These treatment centers offer care at little or no cost, and this can be a great service and opportunity. Many treatment programs are incredibly expensive or require high-end private insurance. If you can’t get into a pricey rehab with BCBS insurance, you may want to investigate local state-funded and county-funded programs. One of the best resources is SAMHSA’s Treatment Locator, which has an index of thousands of programs across the country.

Locations

The other thing to consider when choosing a program is location. Some people advocate for leaving the home area, so the individual can focus on their recovery and steer clear of the temptation of old friends and locations. Others advocate for staying nearby, so an individual can have and maintain a support network after leaving. There may not be a “right” decision here, but it is an important factor. There are many great treatment centers in hubs across the country, such as Palm Springs, South Florida, Pennsylvania, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
